Attention youth in grades 3 thru 6, in celebration of National Championship week here in St. Joseph, the St. Joseph Sports Commission is proud to bring back to town women’s basketball legend Jackie Stiles for a basketball skills clinic on Tuesday, March 21 from 5:30 – 7:30 PM in the MWSU Fieldhouse at Looney Complex on campus at Missouri Western State University. The clinic will focus on basic basketball skills and having fun with the game along with learning other helpful training tips from Jackie.
Stiles played for Southwest Missouri State (now Missouri State) from 1997-2001 in which she led the Bears to a #5 seed and a sweet 16 appearance in the NCAA Tournament during her senior season. She became the first player in history to score more then 1,000 points in a single season and became the then all-time leading scorer in women’s basketball history across all levels accumulating 3,393 points for her career. She now sets third on the all-time list.
Following her college career, Stiles played five seasons in the WNBA for the Portland Fire in which she was named Rookie of the Year during the 2001 season. She retired in 2006 and joined the coaching ranks serving as an assistant coach at Loyola Marymount, Missouri State and Oklahoma.
She now travels the country teaching skills to youth and also working as a personal trainer. Visit her website at jackiestiles.com.
The clinic is free to participants in which space is limited to the first 150 who sign-up via our online form. Participants are encouraged to bring their own basketball!! Participants will also receive a coupon for free swag upon arrival. Check-in will begin at 4:45 PM. Parents/guardians may stay and watch from the stands. We ask those that do not stay to return to the fieldhouse by 7:20 PM.
