JACKIE STELTENPOHL SELECTED AS 2023 BILL SNYDER WOMAN OF IMPACT AWARD RECIPIENT
In conjunction with the St. Joseph Area Sports Hall of Fame’s Class of 2023 induction ceremony, the St. Joseph Sports Commission is pleased to announce our second recipient of the Coach Bill Snyder Woman of Impact Award.
The Woman of Impact Award recognizes a female athlete, coach, administrator or a contributor that achieved an outstanding season or accomplishment over the past year.
The award is named in honor of St. Joseph Area Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2021 inductee Bill Snyder who spoke of the strong impact his mother Marionetta made on his life during his induction speech at the inaugural Hall of Fame ceremony. Coach Snyder, a St. Joseph native, Lafayette High School graduate and legendary Kansas State football coach will be on hand to present the award.
Our 2023 Woman of Impact recipient is LeBlond High School Head Girls Basketball Coach Jackie Steltenpohl. Steltenpohl’s sixth season at the helm of the Golden Eagles was her best yet, leading her team to a 28-4 overall record including opening the season 20-0. The undefeated start vaulted LeBlond to a #1 ranking in Missouri Class 2 in route to winning the District 16 Championship and advancing to the state quarterfinals for the third consecutive year. Unlike the two previous years however, LeBlond would advance to the Class 2 State Final Four (the first appearance for the program in 37 years) and finished runner-up. This elite run led to many team and individual accolades including Steltenpohl being named District Coach of the Year for the third consecutive year and 2023 MEC and KKWK/KMRN Co-Coach of the Year.
Steltenpohl along with the 2023 Hall of Fame class consisting of 9 individual inductees, 1 team and the Special Olympics Athlete of the Year will be inducted on Sunday, August 27 during the enshrinement ceremony at Stoney Creek Hotel & Conference Center with social hour beginning at 4 PM and ceremony at 5 PM.
