Small, medium, and large, St. Joseph has a wide range of facilities to meet the needs of your event and help make it a championship experience!

Civic Arena

The dynamic versatile design of the Civic Arena includes flexible seating capabilities that enable accommodation of any type of event. General assembly seating can be provided for up to 4,200 or as much as 19,000 square feet of unobstructed exhibit space or performing surface along with seating for 2,300. Superb acoustics and lighting, plus a clear view of activities from all locations, prove that there’s not a bad seat in the house. Modular walls within the meeting room complex allow arrangements for groups of 25 up to 200. These spacious rooms are ideal for seminars, banquets, private meetings, and receptions. Access to the building is excellent for exhibitors, performers, and audiences. The arena facilities are completely equipped for, and easily accessible to, the handicapped. Beginning in 2022, the facility will begin a multi-million dollar aesthetic renovation to include: a new basketball floor, basketball goals, replacement of seats, LED center hung scoreboard and LED scorers tables. The arena has hosted numerous local, regional and national events including six NCAA Division II National Basketball Championships.

Bill McKinney Softball Complex At Heritage Park

Heritage Park Softball Complex is a state-of-the-art park with many great amenities. The five-field softball complex is located adjacent to the Missouri River and in close proximity to the Remington Nature Center. It was named the 2009 National Amateur Softball Association Complex of the Year. The complex has hosted ten national tournaments (including the 2010 NCAA Division II Softball Championship), several regional and state tournaments, as well as many locally sponsored contests and tournaments since opening in 2003. These tournaments have made a tremendous impact on the local economy.  This premiere sports complex includes one 250 foot and four 300 foot irrigated fields. Each field includes a covered dugout, scoreboard and “state-of-the-art” MUSCO lighting. The Championship field includes a press box, permanent “chair-back” for 400 and bleacher style seating for another 1,200 people. A concession stand, restrooms, and shaded seating can be found in the 6,000 square foot pavilion located in the center of the complex. Outside the pavilion is a playground with a rubber floor that is covered and fenced.

Griffon Indoor Sports Complex

The Griffon Indoor Sports Complex is one of the finest versatile facilities in the region. The facility serves Missouri Western Athletics and is the summer training camp home of the Kansas City Chiefs. Its features are many and include; a full 100-yard turf indoor field, a state-of-the-art locker room, weight training facility, smart equipped meeting rooms, a 120-seat theatre, equipment room, and athletic training room.

Built at a cost of $10.3 million, the major “wow” factor of the facility is the indoor field portion of the complex. The field includes markings for football and soccer. Overhead netting for the conduct of various sports practices including baseball, softball, and golf. The facility is large enough to accommodate a regulation softball field. Climate control affords comfortable practice conditions 365 days a year. In the winter months, the facility is a hotbed for club baseball, softball, and soccer tournaments.

Spratt Stadium Complex

Home to Griffon Football, Soccer, Lacrosse and the Kansas City Chiefs Summer Training Camp, the Spratt Stadium Complex is one of the finest in the Midwest and the country. Built in 1981, the facility underwent a $7.8 million renovation which was completed in 2016. The main stadium features seating capacity of 7200 seats, a club area, 12 luxury suites, press level and a 2,500 square foot videoboard. Included in the facility is a large outdoor pavilion named for college football legend and St. Joseph native Bill Snyder. In addition to the main game field which is artificial, two natural grass playing fields and an indoor turf field accompany the complex.

Other events that have called the Spratt Stadium Complex home include the St. Joseph High School Football Jamboree and formerly the Missouri State High School Eight Man Football Championship.

St. Joseph Recreation Center

The REC Center is a tremendous quality of life facility for the enjoyment of the entire community. The facility which is a little over a decade old features four basketball/volleyball courts, a full-service fitness center, an indoor walking track and concession stand. The flexible space can also be converted for other uses including pickleball.

Noyes Tennis Complex

Noyes Tennis Complex received a complete renovation in 2018 with new fencing and new court surfaces and is a perfect space for both competitive and recreation competition. The complex features 12 outdoor courts and hosts all local high school matches and tournaments, home matches for Missouri Western State University and has hosted USTA events both on the amateur and professional level.

Phil Welch Stadium

Celebrating its 83rd season, Phil Welch Stadium is an iconic baseball venue. Opening in 1939, the facility has hosted all levels of baseball including serving as home to affiliates of the St. Louis Cardinals and New York Yankees. In recent history, Phil Welch has hosted summer, wood-bat leagues and is currently home to the highly successful St. Joseph Mustangs, the eight-time MINK League Champions. The stadium which has a capacity of 5,000 seats features a natural grass surface, and an outfield party deck and underwent a significant renovation in 2010. Field dimensions are 320 down the lines and 420 to centerfield. In addition to Mustangs baseball, Phil Welch also hosts numerous high school games, previously hosted Missouri Western State University baseball, and served as host of the 1975 NAIA World Series and the 2000 ISC Men’s World Softball Championships.

Riverside Soccer Complex

One of the finest soccer facilities in the region, Riverside Soccer Complex is home to the St. Joseph Youth Soccer Association. The facility will expand to 12 full-size natural grass fields for the 2022 season and serves participants in all age groups. The facility features a concession stand, restroom facilities, and a shelter pavilion.

River Bluff Trails

Officially opening in May 2022, the River Bluff Trail network of multi-use and singletrack trails run through the natural topography of the bluffs in ways enthusiasts have never experienced before. Built to maximize the mountain bike experience while also accommodating hikers and trail runners, visitors will find 12-15+ miles of trail, over 20 downhill runs, a trail connection to Sunbridge Conservation Area with stellar kids and skill zones for budding riders. This is a must attraction and will rival any trail system in the nation.

St. Joseph Country Club

A classic A.W. Tillinghast design and one of the best private facilities in the Midwest, St. Joseph Country Club forces golfers of all ages and skill levels to use every club in their bag. Host of more Missouri Amateur Championships then any course in the state (nine), the course, featuring zoysia fairways stretches to nearly 6700 from the championship teeing ground which is considered shorter by today’s standards however the layout is an excellent test of golf. The facility has also hosted four NCAA Division II Regionals (men – 1997, 2005; women 2013, 2021) and numerous other local and regional events. A state-of-the-art practice facility will open in the summer of 2022 and the clubhouse has undergone a complete renovation and features a brand new ballroom, bar and grill room along with private dining areas.

Moila Country Club

Opening in 1920, the golf course is part of Moila Shrine Temple. Featuring 18 holes and stretching to 6200 yards in length featuring zoysia fairways, the layout is one of the tighter a golfer will find with tree lined fairways making accuracy a premium. The course has hosted many events including state high school sectionals and has been a part of the St. Joseph City Stroke Play Championship course rotation. The venue closed for a brief time during 2020 and was reopened in spring 2021 under new management.

Fairview Golf Club

Established in 1925, Fairview is one of the oldest public courses in Northwest Missouri, situated on more than 200 acres. The rolling fairways, large mature trees, and hazards make this 18 hole course, measuring over 6,300 yards, a challenge for players of all skill levels.

Copper Hill Golf Club

Undergoing a total makeover in 2020, Copper Hill Golf Club is a quaint, unique facility with something for the whole family with a challenging nine hole golf course featuring small greens, practice facility, miniature golf and batting cages. The property also features Prestyn’s Wine Bar which is an excellent place for cocktails and dining after golf or anytime of day for any occasion.

MWSU Fieldhouse at Looney Complex

The MWSU Fieldhouse at Looney Complex is home to the Griffon volleyball and basketball programs. Originally built in 1981, the fieldhouse has a current seating capacity of 3,275 fans for basketball and 850 fans for volleyball. The facility received a complete aesthetic renovation in 2018 which included 360-degree branding, paint and seating to improve the look and fan experience. The court also underwent a total re-finish in 2016.  Along with the main game floor, other amenities within the Looney Complex include: swimming pool, racquetball courts, two full or six condensed basketball courts along with five full volleyball courts.

The fieldhouse has hosted numerous campus and regional events throughout the years including: Missouri State High School Activities Association Sectional and Quarterfinal Basketball games, five NCAA South Central Regional Basketball Tournaments and several concerts including CMA recording artist Josh Turner.

Griffon Spring Sports Complex – Softball/Baseball

Missouri Western baseball & softball calls the state-of-the-art Spring Sports Complex home. The facility, which was completed in March 2011, was built at a cost of $7 million. The complex features great facilities as well as excellent lighting, sound, and top-of-the-line scoreboards. Griffon Softball Field has a seating capacity of 300 fans with plenty of standing areas for overflow crowds.  The playing surface features a dirt infield and natural grass outfield.  Both dugouts are professional quality and are lighted and heated for cold-weather games.  The bullpens are located outside of play down the left field and right field lines.  Field dimensions are 200 feet down the lines and 220 feet to straightaway center field.  Three batting cages are also onsite behind the right-field fence.

Griffon Baseball Field has a seating capacity of 500 fans with plenty of standing areas for overflow crowds. The playing surface is unique in that it features an entirely artificial turf infield and a natural grass outfield. Both dugouts are lighted and heated for cold-weather games. The bullpens are located outside of play down the left field and right field lines. Field dimensions are 330 feet down the lines, 381 to the power alleys, and 400 feet to center field.

In addition to Griffon games, the facility has hosted area high school along with MSHSAA contests, served as the home field/training complex for the Australian National Softball team with numerous American Legion and summer league games.

Hyde Park

This 94-acre park features a hard-surface walking trail, skate park, basketball court, six baseball fields, three tennis/pickleball courts, five shelters, a playground, and the Liberty Oak Splash Park. The baseball complex sets up well for tournament play with five of the six fields being in close proximity to one another. The park also features a concession stand that easily serves four of the six fields.

Bode Sports Complex & Ice Arena

The Bode Sports Complex opened in June of 1999 and has several outdoor activities designed for youth and family involvement. With the help of grants from the George Bode Jr. trust and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, the complex is attached to Bode Ice Arena at the west end of the building. The complex features:

  • A six-court outdoor lighted basketball complex with color-coded benches, seating, scoreboards, and pro-style glass backboards with colored pads
  • A lighted outdoor adaptive sports court with three pickleball courts compliment this complex complete with a scoreboard
  • A skate park is located on the north side of the ice arena that has numerous grinding rails as well as a half-pipe and ramps
  • 30,000 square foot ice arena

The complex is open year-round weather permitting.

Thomas Eagleton Indoor Pool

Undergoing a complete renovation in 2016, the Thomas Eagleton Indoor Pool is home to several swim clubs and serves as the host for area high school competitions. The six-lane pool is 25 yards long in which water temperature is kept at 83 degrees. The pool complex features seating for competition and ample parking.

Griffon Cross Country Course

Located on beautiful, rolling, natural terrain on the east side of the Missouri Western State University campus, the Griffon Cross Country Course is quickly becoming an iconic venue.  The site provides great viewing for spectators along with ample parking and the ability to easily bring in needed amenities and logistical items to host high profile events.  The course is ‘true’ cross country style with hills, tree lined straights and turns, mile markers and finish line which is always in the same place.  The course has already hosted a number of competitions on the collegiate and high school level and is prepared to host 4k, 5k, 6k, 8k and 10k distances.

Belt Entertainment Complex

In a location that has long been a cornerstone on the Belt Highway, the facility includes 32 bowling lanes with state-of-the-art scoring, Volley’s outdoor sand volleyball courts, a laser tag arena, a redemption arcade, billiards, B3: Belt Bowl Bistro and a lounge. The facility regularly hosts local and state bowling competitions most recently serving as a co-host to the Missouri Women’s Bowling Congress State Tournament.

Revolution Lanes

Located on the side south of St. Joseph, Revolution Lanes is a 24-lane facility that also features an on-site pro shop, snack bar, and party space. The facility served as a site for the 2022 Missouri Women’s Bowling Congress State Tournament.

Griffon E-Sports Arena

The Griffon E-sports Arena is filled with state-of-the-art gaming PCs and consoles all available and free to use. Participants can meet up with friends and classmates for some friendly games, grind out competitive matches, or even hang out and play board games/table-top RPGs in the lounge!
